Nightshade Review

Description: Calla Tor has always known her destiny: After graduating from the Mountain School, she'll be the mate of sexy alpha wolf Ren Laroche and fight with him, side by side, ruling their pack and guarding sacred sites for the Keepers. But when she violates her masters' laws by saving a beautiful human boy out for a hike, Calla begins to question her fate, her existence, and the very essence of the world she has known. By following her heart, she might lose everything--including her own life. Is forbidden love worth the ultimate sacrifice?

My Thoughts: I started this book knowing that many, and in fact all the reviews about this book I’d come in contact with where positive. I’d also been looking for a good “werewolf” book to read because although I loved werewolves, I’d never actually read one.

I have to say that it lived up to its hype. Although, I thought I’d like both Ren and Shay equally (which I didn’t) but hey, you win some you lose some. My favorite part of this book besides Ren is that all of the characters were well developed. I didn’t just like Calla, I liked her best friend, and her brother, and his best friend, etcetera etcetera. I also like that there’s a real reason behind the main problem in the book. It might be fictitious, but it makes more since then –

“Hey I don’t like you.”

“Hey, I don’t like you either”

“Well then, let’s fight, and then when we die, let’s have our children and their children fight our battle.”

“Okay”

There was real history behind the problems in Nightshade.

Now to Ren, he made me sigh, he made me blush, and he made my heartache, almost as much as a fictional character possibly could. All throughout the book I kept thinking that if Calla wouldn’t take him, I definitely would! As far as Shay goes, I’m sad to say that I found him annoying. Not annoying as in he took away from the book or that I personally hated him, but annoying like I didn’t see how Calla could like this pup when she had a full grown alpha male (wolf talk).

Overall it was a great book, and appealing enough that I read before classes started, and ate with one hand this week. Nuff said.
